Ancient Libyans attributed great importance to tombs and cemeteries, as they believed inlife after death. Many tombs and sepulchres were found in Shah'hat which goes back to the Greek and Roman times.

The explorer "Hayman", has recently discovered this new sanctuary in the south of Shah'hat.

The monument and its engravings are important because they are of pure Libyan with local style and have no Roman or Greek influence.

The carvings mostly represent snakes (Libyan were renowned for their ability to cure snake bites). However, the variety of art work in the monument leads us to conclude that pre-historic Libyans practiced the art of drawing, carving and engraving from the Pleistocene era to the Neolithic era.
